Being a new mom comes with a lot of questions. As a doula, the one question moms will typically ask me is, “Do I have enough breast milk?” My answer is almost always the same: most likely YES, you do! In fact, statistics say that about 98 percent of women WILL make enough milk for their baby, and chances are…you’re in the 98 percent.

So why do we hear of so many women who struggle with producing enough milk? The truth is that many new moms have no idea how to determine their milk production. I see plenty of women actually making less milk simply by stressing out about it, or by taking supplements that promise to help boost milk supply. In this blog post, I’ll cover some of the most common misconceptions when it comes to determining if what you produce is adequate.
